Visit Apartment Therapy to read about my bedroom makeover! Nine years ago I purchased my condo and loved everything about it, except the carpet in the bedroom. I despise carpet. Hence, a few years ago I had the carpet replaced with laminate flooring. That small change made such a big difference to the overall look of the room. To add a little flavor to the space I incorporated into the redecorating some art and fabric purchased during my travels. I made the duvet cover and bed skirt with fabric I brought back from Nigeria many moons ago. The throw blanket is made with fabric I bought when I studied abroad in Ghana in 1997! The big black and white painting I purchased in Jamaica when I was living there in 2003.
The green chair was purchased at Goodwill. I stripped the paint, repainted and recovered the cushion with green mud-cloth fabric. Because I work long hours I seldom have time to sew or to delve into my creative side, which is unfortunate. I made time for this project and it was so much fun. I must say, I am quite pleased with the finished product.
My bedroom has now become my favorite room, it is a true reflection of my style – a little all over the place. With the dark and light wood floors and different color wood furniture the room has more texture and color. It’s a much warmer space! What do you think of the makeover?
I like it! The removal of carpeting makes a huge difference.
