The rules, I follow; but on my terms. Self-isolation and social-distancing for me requires some intentionality. Intentionality being my 2020 theme, if you haven’t already figured that out. Knowing that loneliness at times is my closest acquaintance required some intentional moves on my part. Fortunately, having learned how to embrace and dance with him (loneliness) I knew I’d be just fine. We are besties. Mental health……..spot check. I am naturally a planner so stocking up and emergency response is part of my day job; check that off the list, no worries there. Food, I m greedy; that was checked off first! There was only one thing I wasn’t prepared for………….
Music therapy upgrades! Music is my escape, my therapy and my joy factor. It has become my saving grace during self-isolation. For your reference, in my head I am living out an urban musical. A week into self-isolation I realized something was missing in my theatrical performance. The bass! Not only was it missing, I couldn’t hear or feel it. Live concerts, DJs, dance classes….I was ready. However, both my mind and body were having an internal struggle. My little bitty a$$ wireless speaker wasn’t stepping up to the plate. Where was the baseline?! Why can’t I FEEL the music? What the….. How did I allow this to happen? A quick intervention was required. I went to facebook and asked for recommendations. Music lovers understood and quickly responded . Yup, within hours I had selected a speaker and three days later I was ready to upgrade my jam sessions. It was my birthday week, I deserved a treat.
Speaker with some bass…check! I am complete…. #selfisolation upgrade. Wait until we are released, y’all aint ready for my new dance moves. Watch out! Wait….I have a challenge for you all! If music is your therapy/your high…you have soundtracks. Whether you know it or not you probably have a 2020 self-isolation soundtrack. I started creating mine this week! The challenge is for you to create your own playlist on Spotify. Right now my playlist is upbeat with cool vibes , but who knows how it will evolve. Y’all down, up for the challenge? Here is my soundtrack #Rona Therapy.
Lastly, I just want to thank all the artist who have shared their art/music with us to help create more authentic and lasting connections. From the bottom of my heart I send tremendous gratitude and thanks to D-nice, DJ Kemit, DJ, Salah Ananse, DJ Trauma, Dj Bizmarkie, Anthony David, Algebra, Anthony Hamilton, Alicia Keys, Kameron Corvet, Eric Roberson, Cleveland Jones, and Elle Varner. There is no way I can remain sane in isolation without feeling the base and jammin’ to the music/art coming from the aforementioned artist. Thank you, I am forever grateful.
Excellent Post in a time of Dispare. I am a music lover people look at me a little funny when I put some Darius Rucker. Music sooth the soul.
