Don't Be Careless With Other's Hearts “Be the one who nurtures and builds. Be the one who has an understanding and a forgiving heart one who looks for the best in people. Leave people better than you found them.” - M. J. Ashton As the media spreads red hearts and roses across our screens and… Continue reading Don’t Be Careless

Part III: Celebrating Black Men
As you may have noticed, I am once again single in the city! Most people either really love dating or completely dread it; I am somewhat in the middle. Truth be told, I am good at dating. Unfortunately, I can tell you how to get a man, but I damn sure can’t give you advice on how to keep him! One of my biggest challenges with being single is the negative commentary about being a single Black woman in her 40's. The second hardest part about being single is filtering out all the negativity about dating Black men. Wait…. Let me be clear, the negativity is not all coming from white people. This is Black on Black crime! Let’s call it what it is! Are you an offender?
Part II – Celebrating Black Men
After hearing Kameron Corvet’s live performance of “Led Me to You,” I bought the CD and played the song on repeat for a month straight. No NPR on the drive to and from work — only Kameron singing sweet melodies in my ear. The song gave me a little bit of hope during my five months break from men and dating. The lyrics were a reminder that every failed relationship serves a purpose, and just maybe each… Continue reading Part II – Celebrating Black Men

Part I: Celebrating Black Men - Gratitude & Compassion Thank You To My Homies It’s amazing how God puts the right people in your life at the right time. The most… Continue reading Part I – Celebrating Black Men

End of an Era – My Fav Music Fests
When I think of summer, watermelon and music festivals come to mind, if I can experience both at the same time I am in heaven. For years, House In the Park (HITP) and One Music Fest (OMF) were my festivals of choice. HITP was my favorite because I could bring my watermelon. Of course I… Continue reading End of an Era – My Fav Music Fests
Let’s Talk About Suicide
The pain and outrage in my father’s voice was something I had never heard before, he choked up the words to tell me my uncle Peter was gone. He had died by suicide. This was August 2009. Within a six month time-frame I experienced the loss of three family members, all men. One to gun… Continue reading Let’s Talk About Suicide

People ask me all the time if I can cook. Do I look like I can't cook? Skinny people don't eat, so surely they can't cook. I will let you in on a little secret, I will eat you out of a house and a home. Since I love to eat, cooking good food is… Continue reading Skinny People Can’t Cook
can’t be still
The idea behind "all over the place" comes from how others perceive me. Of course, I live up to their perceptions. However, those who really know me know I can retreat into my shell and will make every effort to be by myself. I love "me" time, but for some strange reason on most days… Continue reading can’t be still
